It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our resident Dunkin the raccoon. He had just had his 8th birthday, and lived a long and full life here at the sanctuary. He came to the sanctuary with his suitemate, Sweet Pea, after being taken in by a local licensed rehabber and deemed unfit for release by a veterinarian. The rehabber contacted us, and we had the honor of giving him a home.
Dunkin was the shyer of the two, often seen hanging out in one of his many hides, but would be your best friends when the training treats came out. Living to his true raccoon nature, he would occasionally reach through the fence as we walked past to see if we had snacks for him in our pockets or training pouches.
He loved to paint us colorful pawprint paintings as one of his enrichment activities, and shred boxes and paper, taking a special liking to ones that were red and green.
Join us in Remembering Dunkin, the beloved raccoon who touched our hearts and educated us about local wildlife. Let's honor his memory together.
